Ealing versus Hertford at the Trailfinders stadium
Ok imagine you are sitting on your sofa, watching this game back on your sky Q box and it being commentated on by a 5 year old, that is what you are going to get
Ealing kick off with an “av it” high ball, confidently collected by William passed to Taite, strong run beating 3 defenders TRY, nil one, 30 seconds in!!
Restart Hertford collect ball, a little more bish and bash from the Hertford Team, Archie hunt off load’ to Morgan, a fleet of foot, Try, nil two
Hertford Forwards have the ball, march forward running the Phases, ball into the backs, simple pass, pass, pass TRY, Jack in the corner nil three. Booom! 7 minutes gone and Hertford in complete control.
Period of dominate play from the Hertford pack, Crowd cross the side line watching Hertford attack the left side of the pitch, so cannot see who crosses the line for Hertford’s fourth but a try it is to Finn Newton.
The dominance continues from Hertford completing bossing the game, nice play between the forwards and backs only for handling errors and the referees pinging for high hand offs, to deny the scoreboard continuing to tick over.
Hertford working the ball 5 meters out from the Ealing whitewash, Finn bloomer receives the ball, slow mo “geeeetttt out of my waaaayyy, immmm cooommiiing through!!!! , bounces a few defenders off, TRY, great drive from the big chap and it is nil five.
Tom receives the ball wide left, following a driving run from Archie T, darts for the left hand corner with intent, only to be nudged one toe in touch just short of the line
Finn newton gives it a little bit of tekkers, smooth dancing feet, a couple of dummy passes beating the would be defenders, moving the ball to the right for George who has joined the attack from full back to casually run over for nil six and the half time whistle.
Half time analysis from the studio guests (well me) Hertford completely in control. If it seems Ealing have not really been mentioned, they have made at best a total of 15 meters advance in to the Hertford Half during the first 25 minutes, Hertford’s Line speed just giving them no room to move and no time to think, half time could not come soon enough for the home team.
Second half underway, a five minute period of competition between the Teams in centre field, Possibly the half time talk for the Home team was going to bear fruit. But Hertford start to gain the upper hand once again through several phases of good play from the pack, Archie Hunt ball in hand makes a break for the line with some work to be done TRY nil seven
Ealing make a rare advance in to Hertford territory, a scrum on the Hertford 22 won by Hertford, only to be ripped away and the home team make forward momentum , Hertford now have to defend on their five meter line a period of sloppy play ensues with the ball going back and forth, between both teams, Jack pops up with the ball on his own try line, gives it a bit “Usain Bolt” and goes Coast to Coast TRY nil eight
Hertford win a scrum against the head on the half way line square and centre, more quick hands from Hertford and Jack takes the direct route straight through the middle and over the line for the ninth Try of the morning
More dominance from Hertford releases Morgan just shy of the half way to run in a tenth down the wing
From the restart Hertford have the ball move up to the half way, move the ball to wing for Morgan to collect , checking his run, giving a “sit down chap” side step to the full back and over for nil eleven
Jack runs in twelfth try of the day and the Ealing coaches throw in the towel, with 8 minutes left to go, the ref blows the whistle, game over
Apologies to those not mentioned by name, my reporting skills are nowhere near as good as the standard of play on display by the Hertford Team, it was an utterly dominant display from Hertford, in all aspects, each and every player won their personal match ups, it was noted from the side line, the continuity of play from the team with what ever mix of players on the field was telling.
Jack was given the player of the day award from Ealing
As an aside it was overheard Coach Sean saying “ they are putting everything taught in training, into this match, how great am I !!!!” I may have added a little VAT to that statement ……..
Ealing 0- Hertford 60
Scorers
Jack 4
Morgan 3
George 1
Archie 1
Finn 1
Taite 1
Finn N1
Many thanks to Dean Jackson for the match report (slightly more vocab for the average 5 yr old - I'd say more like Brian Moore commentary). Thanks to Phil Suddick for shirt washing duty. All much appreciated.
Thanks
