As the Red Roses were preparing for their match against Samoa on Saturday 30th August, the coaches and admins in the Girls' section were busy preparing for something equally as important.
The RFU have partnered with Barbie and Merlin to promote the Women's World Cup and as a result we were able to offer an Activity Day which had lots of rugby, lots of goodies and lots of smiles.
Kicking off the afternoon, Hertford welcomed about 30 Minis/U12 girls - some of whom had never played before! Using the new pink and purple balls we have purchased, the coaches put on loads of fun, skill-based games, some amazing kicking sessions and finished with a touch game. The girls had a wonderful time.
The older sections joined later in the afternoon and we welcomed some of our Datchworth friends who we are clustering with this season. The older girls were able to play a touch game with coaches and parents in what was a fun-filled energetic warm up to the Watch Party in the Club.
As England kicked off against Samoa, the club was buzzing with members and guests enjoying the vibe. The girls had yet more activities to do, sponsored by Barbie and Merlin such as jewellery making, designing a roller coaster (for a chance to win a year's membership to Merlin theme parks), origami and colouring.
Each of our players recieved a Barbie bag, complete with RFU water bottle and loads of extras.
With England's victory secured, the club buzzing and the players smiling, it was lovely to reflect how far the Girls' section has come in the last few years, so all in all, an amazing afternoon and a super start to our new season.
I'm off to sweep up a lot of beads from the club house floor now!
