Vice President Peter Creasey - RIP ( with update)

Gavin Howell22 Mar 2022 - 08:32

Peter's funeral service will take place at St Andrew's Church, Hertford at Midday, followed by a reception at Hertford RFC from 1pm

It is with immense sadness that I have to report the death, on Friday, of Hertford stalwart Peter Creasey.

Peter was a long standing member of the club and was the oldest surviving Vice President having been made a VP in 1972, 50 years ago. Peter was Vice Captain of the 2nd XV from 1954-55 but became a fixture in the back row in the 1st XV throughout the late 1950s and 1960s. He was Team Secretary from 1958-62 and sat on the Main Committee from 1962-69 and led the club’s fundraising efforts and was responsible for all the club’s public relations. His son Paul, a Hertford legend himself, explained that the Rugby Club was an immense part of his life and as such we will all mourn his passing.

The Creasey family are an important part of the history of Old Hertfordians and Hertford Rugby Club and in February 1964 against Old Albanians Peter played at blind side in a back row of Creasey brothers with Paul at No.8, Alan at openside, John played at hooker with Michael in the centre, five brothers in the 1st XV a remarkable achievement.

I am sure that many club members will have many memories of Peter and I invite them to post their reminiscences on the website.

We await details of the funeral, which will be posted as soon as we hear of them.
In the meantime, on behalf of Hertford RFC I would like to pass on our condolences and best wishes to Peter’s family.
Peter King - President
