The last full Saturday card tomorrow and all senior sides still have something to play for. The 1st XV hit the M25 looking for 5 points against Guildford who themselves will be looking for a result to keep their Premier league status for next season. I think we can expect no quarter given on either side. Even a bonus point victory for Hertford will not be enough to secure 3rd if our old friends from Westcombe Park cannot stop Tring getting their own bonus point win.

The coaches seem face tough choices every week and a glance at that team sheet shows a half dozen or so who were regulars in the 2’s at the start of the season but are now equipping themselves well or even making the place their own.

A special mention should go to Torren who, providing he can get out of bed in the morning and get to Guildford, will have played in all 26 games this season. Fantastic for someone who’s been busted more time the Bunters diet promises.

The 2nd XV are at Hoe Lane where they will entertain Wimbledon 2’s. Last week’s narrow defeat against a very energetic Ealing Amateurs dislodged us from the top spot in a league with a number of very strong teams.

Wimbledon 1’s who gained promotion from our league last year and are in a battle for relegation despite an improvement in their results in the 2nd half of the season. Their 2’s have also benefited from a midterm improvement but if Hertford can get anything from the game of deny ‘the Dons’ a bonus point victory, which is very ‘doable’, they will secure a deserved 2nd spot in a very good season. 2.30 ko

The ‘Hoes’ are also at home tomorrow as they play host Harpenden 2nd XV. A good win could see them climb towards the top of Herts/Middx Merit 1 but they may have one eye on their last game of the season , next week, when they meet Fullerians 2nd XV in the Merit 1 plate final.

What will be great to see tomorrow is 7 of the current Academy squad turning out for them. So good luck Steff Jones, Billy Coleman, George Davies, David Hale, Ben Gilchrist , Tom Lamband Louis Kendrick all playing their 1st or 2nd game of senior rugby. In order to keep the youngsters in check and to bring the average age of the team up, the side also contains an old Hertford favourite of whom it could be said ‘ is on the back 9’. Good luck Macca!

If you are not going to Guildford tomorrow please come up and encourage the home sides.

The Termites travel west to take on Berkhampsted 1st XV after securing at least 3rd spot in Merit 5 with a mathematical possibility of the runner up spot. They also turn out next Saturday in the Merit 5 Cup final. A great season for a side that regularly features 7 over 50’s in the line-up. There is a rumour that last week their changing room door, instead of saying ‘Hertford Changing Room’ said ‘Gods Waiting Room!

After the days 'on field' activities we have an evening of fine dining and sophisticated repartee at the club with the players awards dinner. What could possibly go wrong!

Last but not least the next two Sundays will be busy at Hertford as we host the county U13 festival (22/4) and the 6,7 and 8 yr. olds tag festival (29/4) Come and enjoy the days.
