We are thrilled to announce that Marcus has agreed to join us as the new Director of Rugby. (DOR)
Marcus' role and responsibilities will include helping to further drive up standards not only within the senior section but will also include responsibilities within the youth, mini , ladies and girls sections where his wealth of knowledge and experience in all levels of coaching will be a huge asset to Hertford.
His rugby journey began at the age of 6 when he joined Bishops Stortford RFC, where he played through mini, youth and Colts, before debuting for their 1st XV at the age of 17.
His accolades with our friends and rivals from the Northeast of the County include winning the Herts Presidents Cup in 2009, National 3 league in 2012/13, and playing in the Nat 1 playoff game at the end of the 2014/15 season before retiring, having notched up 170 1st XV appearances.
After retiring from playing he became assistant coach working under Andy Long, helping BSRFC to the Nat 2 South title in 2016/17.
He took on the joint Head Coach role at Stortford for the 20/21 Covid hit season. He was part of the coaching team that helped them to their highest ever league finish and was stand alone Head Coach for the 23/24 season.
Away from club Rugby, his career has seen him working as School Games Organiser for the West Essex School Sports Partnership since 2015 and prior to this he worked for England Rugby within Hertfordshire & Essex as a development officer.
He Studied Sports Development at the University of Gloucestershire between 2006-2009. and achieved RFU Level 3 coaching award in 2020.
In our discussions with Marcus his enthusiasm for the sport and for developing talent stood out and he certainly has the ambition to take any side he is involved with to their apex.
He was particularly enthused about our current wealth of home grown talent and is looking forward to helping them develop and ensuring the production line continues.
We are certain Marcus will be a great asset to the club and look forward to welcoming him on board.
Hertford RFC, its a great place to be.
