Herts Presidents Cup Semi Final.

Ged Murphy22 Feb 2018 - 18:44

Hertford 2ndXV V Fullerians 1st XV Sat 2.15 KO

After comprehensively beating Tring 2’s in the last round Hertford 2nx XV entertain Fullerians 1st XV with the prize being a place in the Final to be played at Allianz Park.

After gaining promotion to London 1 North Fullers had a slightly shaky start to the season but have now consolidated in mid table and turned around some of their early losses in the return fixture.

Their selection was not available at the time of writing but they have been using the experience of an old Hertford favourite Craig ‘Southy’ South for a few seasons now. They are also likely to have Jon ‘Bear’ Barson at prop. Jon played a few games for our 2’s a couple of years ago before returning ‘home’ to Fullers. It would be great to see them galloping about the park again.

Enough of the oppo though, what about us! Hertford 2XV have enjoyed a very successful season, currently sitting top of a very competitive Zoo 2 league which has many Nat 2 and even Nat 1. 2nd XV’s competing.

Our record for the season is 17 wins and 3 losses, The 3 losses have all been on the road and of the defeat last time out Coach Dave Hynard commented:
“We are keen to get back to winning ways this week after our last disappointing loss against a very good Redingensians side. Fullerians will be no pushover but we know that if we stick to our game plan and play for each other we are a very difficult side to beat. There is a strong self-belief and a great attitude in this young side and when it all comes together it’s a joy to watch.”

This season has seen great competition for places with the likes of Rory Seymour, Joe Stockwell, Sam Walker and Ollie Cain making the step up to 1’s.

As well as these there are others who are pushing hard. Coach Dave said of two of them.
“ It is great to have Will Goodman back in the side our young second row from Devon has had a great season to date, with relentless work rate and a huge appetite to improve. He will be sorely missed next season when he returns back to university. I'd also like to mention Rob Walters, out very reliable number 10 who adds some calmness to our back line as well as a massive boot!”

There will be several players wanting to make an impression with the whole front row Cass, Luke Ellis and the ‘force of nature’ that is Najee returning from injury.

There are a couple of new signings to look out for in the shape of centre Luca Townsend and a very young 2nd row with a big future, Jonathan Kopoku. It is also fantastic to dee on the bench Young Thomas Hamer who left out academy last year and has been playing Rugby League this season but has come back to union. Having watched develop and improve massively over the last couple of years I am certain he is going to be a huge asset to the club and a lovely lad as well.

I hope that has given you an appetite for this game and if so why not help satisfy it by coming to the pre match lunch.
