A message from Rob and Laura below.

[All are welcome to join us for Dad's funeral which will be held at Woollensbrook Crematorium at 4pm on the 10th April 2024, followed by the wake at Hertford Rugby Club afterwards.

We know it's late in the day and hope that doesn't cause problems for anyone travelling a distance - it was that or waiting another week which we were keen not to do.

There will be no real dress code, just wear whatever you think he'd appreciate - perhaps a particularly dodgy shirt, club tie or a smart bit of tweed.

Donations made to either the Essex & Herts Air Ambulance or the RFU Injured Players Foundation would be very welcome.][/i]

In a very sad week we have to report that another of our Vice Presidents and supporters, Dave Jones passed away yesterday, (Thursday)

Although I don’t believe he ever played for Hertford, he has a near 30 year direct association and more tenuous one from many years before.

Dave played Colts rugby at Finchley and for Middlesex Colts alongside a long time Hertford second row, Kevin Albone. He also played senior rugby at Finchley and for London Welsh.

His Hertford involvement started with bringing his Son Rob to mini rugby, where, as is our norm, he was press ganged into helping with coaching. The side he helped coach went on to be one of the best youth sides Hertford has produced and Rob became our established Hooker before persistent injury’s shortened his career.

Dave and the family would be in regular attendance to support Hertford and Rob, with Sister Laura acting as Rob’s minder.

Dave served the wider community as well, retiring 10 years ago after 30 years’ service with the Met Police.

A humble man who will be missed.

Our thoughts are with his family.

Thank you for your service Dave.
