I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to all members of Hertford Rugby Club for placing your trust in me as your new Chair. It’s a privilege and a responsibility I take seriously.
I would also like to pay tribute to Karen Newbury for her outstanding leadership and unwavering commitment to the club over many years. Her dedication has laid a strong foundation, and I’m honoured to build on the legacy she leaves behind.
As many of you will be aware, unfortunately, Howard Par has stepped down as Head Coach to pursue a new career opportunity. Howard has been a great friend of the club and played an important role in our rugby journey. We wish him every success in the next chapter of his career and hope he’ll be back at the club soon—for a catch-up and a well-earned beer or two.
Following Howard’s departure, I’m pleased to share that Marcus Cattell has agreed to take on the role of Head Coach. While Marcus was originally recruited for the Director of Rugby position, the Board is fully aligned in the belief that he is best placed to step into the significant gap left by Howard. His experience and leadership will be invaluable as we continue to move forward.
At the same time, James Storey will be moving off the coaching team to focus fully on his new role as Director of Rugby. James brings a wealth of rugby knowledge and a strong strategic mindset, and both he and Marcus have committed to working closely together—and with me—to ensure we stay true to our ambition and purpose as a club.
Looking ahead, I believe it’s vital for us—as a club and as a community—to be ambitious. Whether it’s on the pitch, in our minis and youth development, or within our wider club culture, we must strive to push forward together. The strength of Hertford Rugby Club lies in its people, and I look forward to working with all of you to shape an exciting future.
Thank you once again for your support.
