As in any post-World Cup year 2020 has been no different and there is a plethora of great rugby literature in circulation at the moment, with professional players sharing serious messages along with tales of derring do. However for those of us in the community rugby no story hits harder than one in which we can imagine ourselves walking a mile in somebody else's shoes.
If you're reading this on Social Media then you can also help by retweeting and sharing with your friends, family and the broader the rugby community.
“A Break in Mendoza” is an ideal stocking filler that will benefit a great cause.
This book, written by former Hertford 1st XV player, Carl Igolen-Robinson, charts a year in the life of his son Luke, a Hertford RFC player since U6s. In August 2018, Luke broke his neck in a collision during a school tour match in Mendoza, Argentina, leaving him in a very precarious and dangerous situation. He needed major surgery before flying home and then, the long path back to full fitness and a determined and courageous return to playing rugby. The book’s main theme centres around the unmistakable bond of rugby players, the rugby family and the unconditional support he received from all sides, to match his own resilience and resolve. In addition, it’s a father/son journey and how that relationship developed. The foreword is written by Will Greenwood MBE.
Carl is donating 100% of his royalties to the RFU Injured Players Foundation and we warmly encourage you to grab a copy this Christmas. The book can be found here on the publishers website HERE or on Amazon HERE
Subscribers to Rugby World magazine will have read about Luke’s story in the latest issue - “Rugby Heroes”
